The aim of the client was to provide an award winning building with a cutting edge visitor experience in a small congested site in Limerick City Centre. This new 7 floor over basement building will, when completed in Summer 2022 provide exactly that. However, the issue with that was trying to marry an award winning architectural design with limited space for M&E services to ensure that a building is provided that gives the visitors a comfortable space to enjoy the architectural and visitor experiences in an NZEB compliant building.
Through months of design and very close collaboration with all parties a final design was completed, and construction began in September 2020. This project has a number of months to run before completion and then a final fitout of the visitor experience will take place before the opening in Summer 2022.
We worked closely with our in house Sustainability team to provide a NZEB compliant building that would provide adequate heating, cooling an fresh air tot eh space to ensure the all visitors would comfortably enjoy their experience. Added to this was a high tech AV/Interactive experience that was closely co-ordinated with the other M&E services.
With little to no ceiling void in any space a full Mechanical Heating & Cooling system is being provide through floor void. This provided a huge challenge to co-ordinated both the M&E services in a small, congested space. With life Safety Generators, Fire fighting lifts, minimum riser space a huge team effort was required to provide a workable design that met both the clients and architects requirements.
